POLICE: The number of reported crimes in Ottery for October was 22, one up from the same month last year. But the number of calls made to police dropped from 94 in October 2010, to 56 last month. A spokesman said both Halloween and the carnival went off without incident and there were only a couple of minor offences at Tar Barrels.

MARKET: At this month’s Sustainable Ottery (SO) community market they will be offering advice on how to be more energy-efficient, as well as the usual stalls selling locally produced and organic food, cards and jewellery, plants and books. Earlier than usual this month, it is on Saturday, November 17, in the Institute on Yonder Street, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. SO will be on hand to with advice about solar panels, grants and on how to keep warm, but keep energy bills down this winter.
