Sidford restaurant and B&B owners “delighted” to be among top-class restaurants in food guide

AWARD-WINNING The Salty Monk in Sidford, a restaurant with rooms converted from a 16th century salt house by its owners Andy and Annette Witheridge, joins other top-class South West restaurants in the latest edition of the Trencherman’s Guide.

Annette said: “We are delighted to be included in such a well regarded guide. The criteria it sets for inclusion are very stringent, and it has the backing of some of the top names in the business including Michael Caines and Rick Stein.”

Andy, who is head chef, added: “It is also very encouraging how many more recommended establishments there are in this year’s guide.

It really shows how the South West is leading the country in the provision of first class dining, not just in the preparation of the food and drink, but also in the wealth of fantastic local suppliers.”

The guide lists The Salty Monk as “chic and unpretentious”. It was named bed and breakfast of the year 2008/09 and has two AA rosettes.
