CAMPAIGN 2010 took a sporty turn in Sidmouth on Friday.
A darts match at the Volunteer Inn, Temple Street, raised more than 360 for the Sidmouth Living With Cancer Support Group’s mini-bus appeal.
Group member Win Manley organised the event with landlord and landlady Steve Lea and Jo Jacobs. Win’s Ladies narrowly lost in the final game of the main event, 4-3. After the official game, five games of pairs took place with group members competing against pub customers.
“The group lost 5-0, but had great fun,” said member Bill Lankester. “Jo put on food, there was a raffle and a collection made in an old-fashioned gusunder or chamber pot.
“During the World Cup, Mark Haliwell, from Stonewells, sold football shirts at the Volunteer and he donated 50 from the proceeds to start the evening’s collection off.”
Steve donated 100, and with donations from customers, the evening raised 367.68 toward the mini-bus.
Jo said the pub did a lot of fundraising, so was happy to support the group’s efforts. “It’s a very good charity. Nearly every family is touched by cancer, so its work is important,” she said.
