SIDMOUTH Society of Artists is currently welcoming visitors to its summer exhibition. The show, at the Arts Centre in Station Road, features oil paintings, watercolours and pastel pieces by the society’s 150 members.

Guest of honour at the preview evening was author Jonathan Walker, who chose the recipient of the Marion Oven Award for best in show - Cathy Rothwell’s African King. In line with tradition, Cathy will keep the silver plate for a year and be asked to donate a piece to be raffled at the society’s one-day exhibition at Connaught Gardens in August, in aid of Hospiscare.

Exhibition officer John Evans said it took about four months to put the event together. “It’s a lengthy process, but very rewarding,” he said. “We’ve been experiencing good visitor numbers. We have people coming down on holiday within these two weeks just to see the exhibition. They come back time and time again.”

The exhibition runs until Wednesday, July 21.
