A ROAD in Sidmouth has been earmarked for repair after the county council was awarded a �3.6million winter damage grant.
The B3176 from Alexandria Road to Bulverton Park is one of 35 schemes identified for patching or resurfacing work.
Devon County Council was given the grant by the Department for Transport and it is targeting roads where maintenance carried out now can protect them from further deterioration.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, DCC cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "We have received this grant to repair roads that have been damaged by the winter, and while it may only help us fix a small percentage of our roads, we are putting the money to good use where it can have the most impact.
"The roads being targeted may not be those that have suffered the most, but this is the best use of this funding to enable us to cost effectively repair and protect more of our network."
The funding is in addition to DCC's �7million repairs programme which is underway to deal with the damage caused by the harsh winter.
Mr Hughes added: "The fact that our teams have repaired more than 70,000 potholes already this year tells its own story.
"Devon has the biggest road network of any authority in the country, so any funding is welcome to help us maintain it. We are continuing to work hard to keep our roads as safe as possible."
