NEW plans for the Fortfield Hotel site in Sidmouth are unlikely to be submitted in the next few weeks.

Graham Beck, an independent planning consultant working alongside the developers, this week told the Herald that the plans are still being altered.

He said: "The design process is complex and iterative particularly when trying to achieve so many competing objectives.

"The architect is working diligently but we are also working on other aspects of the project to make sure we address all the council's policy matters."

A public exhibition was held in July and proposals for the derelict hotel site were unveiled.

If the developer gets the green light, the hotel will be demolished and replaced with flats and holiday apartments.

Mr Beck added: "At the moment I think it is unlikely an application will be submitted before the end of September.
