OTTERY Twinning Association members have this week been reflecting upon a bank-holiday trip to French counterpart town Pont L'Eveque last month.

Thirty members made the journey to build on the towns' 32-year friendship with the Normandy town.

The group took the opportunity to launch it's new French translation of the Ottery Heritage Trail leaflet and a project to get youngsters from Pont L'Eveque, Ilsfeld in Germany and Ottery together for the 20012 London Olympic Games.

Group chairman Mark Rix said: "We spent Saturday with the host families, some of us were taken to see some of the memorials left over from the last war, namely V1 rocket sites and museum displays to the Dieppe raid of 1942.

"On Sunday we had an early start for a very interesting tour behind the scenes and other areas of the port of Le Harvre, followed by lunch and speeches. After lunch a visit to an old Napoleonic Fort that has been transformed into public gardens, Jardins Suspendus (Hanging Gardens) on Monday after a visit to the local market and the usual farewells."

The twinners' journey home involved a stop at St Mere Eglise- the first town liberated on D-Day where the group came upon a service and gathering of cyclists taking part in the London to Paris ride for the Help for Heroes charity.
