YOUNG people interested in helping the environment will have a chance to do their bit this weekend at a beachcombing event in Sidmouth.
Youth Futures, a new group set up by Sustainable Sidmouth, have organised the beach clean-up day for younger people and their parents.
The aim of the day is to collect items washed up on the beach and to sort them out into recyclable materials, rubbish and other items.
The items collected, which would normally be thrown away, will then be used to create a collage which will be displayed at Blackmore Gardens in April.
Louise Woolley, leader of the group, said: "As well as collecting artefacts from the beach we will also be educating the children who come to this event.
"We will be making them aware of the beach environment- how important it is to keep it clean and we will also be raising awareness of recycling."
The group is encouraging as many children as possible, with at least one parent, to attend the clean-up.
Louise added: "This is the first event we have organised and we are hoping for as many people as possible to come along."
Anyone who would like to participate in this event is asked to meet at the Ham at 11am on Sunday, March 8. The clean-up will take place on the main Sidmouth beach until 3pm and people are asked to bring gloves.
