Sidmouth in Bloom is appealing for residents to open their gardens to the public to help raise money for its work.

The spring 'Secluded Gardens' event will take place on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday 30. Residents charge a small fee for people to come and look around, and may choose to offer tea and cakes as well.

Sidmouth in Bloom's chair Lynette Talbot said: "There are many lovely spring gardens in town. SIB wants a variety of small and large gardens as visitors come to enjoy their day out, perhaps have teas and get ideas. A town opening is also a time of enjoyment and community interaction. Gardens do not need to be of an award-winning standard or large. Diversity gardens, wild gardens and meadow gardens are all welcome to open."

There will also be a summer 'Secluded Gardens' event, running from Thursday, June 29 until Monday, July 3.

The money raised through the private garden openings helps to keep Sidmouth's public areas looking beautiful. This year Sidmouth in Bloom's initiatives will include seven new trough 'community gardens' in the Sensory Garden for public use, and additional planting in this area and the Ham Borders.
