Sidmouth residents are being invited to contribute to a community poem to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Sidmouth Library is asking for people of all ages to write four lines of rhyming verse. Library staff will put all the entries together into one long poem and display it in the library.

Contributions should be emailed to sidmouth.library@librariesunlimited.org.uk or dropped in at the library by April 15.

The King’s coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6, and there will be a street party in Sidmouth town centre on Sunday, May 7. Tables for this party can be booked at Sidsoft in Church Street.

Tickets for the library’s Easter raffle go on sale on Thursday, March 23, with the draw taking place on Wednesday, April 5. Prizes have been donated by Tesco and other library supporters.

Also on April 5 there is a children’s storytime and a teddy bears’ sleepover. Kids can bring their teddies to the story reading and then leave them at the library for the night – pictures will be shared on social media. The toys can be collected any time after 10.30am on Thursday, April 6.

On the same day (Thursday April 6), artist and author Darrell Wakelam will be running a mask and 3D face-making workshop, suitable for children aged five to 10. Tickets are £1 and booking is essential as spaces are limited.

On Saturday, April 15, there will be a guided nature walk from 10.30am until 11.30am, starting and ending at the library, using one of its nature backpacks which are available to borrow. Children must be accompanied by an adult; the event is free but places must be pre-booked.

The library’s staff are also planning to set up regular community board games sessions. These could take place on Mondays from 4pm until 5pm, or Wednesdays from 3.30 until 4.30, and anyone interested is asked to contact the library to say which slot would suit them best.

Sidmouth Library is run by Libraries Unlimited, which is a charity, and it also has a Friends Group. Staff will be happy to give details of how to get involved with supporting the library and its range of activities.
