The latest artwork on Sidmouth Wallspace is a celebration of the town, created by a group of 60 people aged from five to 85.

Led by coordinating artist Maureen Hawkridge, they created 234 pictures of Sidmouth: buildings including their own homes, views of the seafront and quirky personal touches.

The separate works were collaged together digitally to create the final piece - called Our Town - which is attracting plenty of attention and positive feedback.

Among those involved were members of Sidmouth's U3A's Exploring Art group and other U3A members, along with Sidmouth's Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

The District Guides Commissioner, Grace Essex, said: "They found the experience intriguing and enjoyable, an opportunity to work with other members of the Sidmouth community to be creative and have fun.”

Sidmouth Herald:

Artist Maureen studied painting and sculpture at Leeds College of Art, and education at Bristol University. She taught for many years and is now retired, but runs the Exploring Art group within Sidmouth U3A.

She said: “I've really enjoyed working with so many people, both younger and older, who have put their heart and soul into this celebration of our town, and it's exciting to have it displayed where it will be seen and admired by residents and visitors alike.”

Sidmouth Herald:

Sidmouth School of Art Artistic Director Coco Hodgkinson said: “It’s great to see this work on the billboard. The process took more than a year to complete and was a labour of love that embodies our vision to 'Make Sidmouth the Artwork!'”

Fine Art prints of Our Town will be available to buy in the coming weeks – follow Sidmouth School of Art on Facebook and Instagram @sidmouthschool_art for the latest updates.

This latest wallspace is part of a suite of new projects designed and delivered in partnership with Sidmouth School of Art and Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub.

The initiative aims to connect and collaborate with arts and cultural groups/organisations, encourage young people and adults to develop confidence in their creativity, nurture new talent and build a sense of wellbeing and belonging.

In addition to the billboard with its regularly changing displays, the project website provides a digital platform where work is also presented in online galleries www.sidmouthart.org
