With three bank Holidays this month are we capitalizing on them all, or indeed are we bothering to open at all?

As the Coronation looms with less than twenty four hours to go until many of us will witness something we have never seen before, the planned street parties will celebrate the crowning of a new King and long may he reign, but does any extra Bank Holiday in the month of May assist us in any way?

The Chamber of Commerce has gone to great effort to celebrate the Coronation and whether you belong or not, agree with them or not, there work on the co-ordination and logistics of the event is undeniable.

The last time we had a Coronation in this country the phrase 'Health and Safety' was not yet invented and pianos were dragged out of houses up and down the country to be played with some vigor, yet everyone still had a good time all partaking in the days events and those watching, did so on much smaller television screens in black and white, although colour filming of the event did take place.

So will you be open and indeed will it be worth it for the remaining two bank holidays of this month? That is a question which remains to be answered but fortune smiles on the brave and although the general attitude of the consumer may not be particularly vibrant, we have to take every opportunity and seaside towns do tend to attract the visitors but, as usual we will need to place a little faith in the good old British weather which ultimately can be responsible for a lot of smiling faces or some very despondent ones.

Whatever you’re doing this Saturday whether you are a hardcore Royalist or not, as the case maybe, we as a nation welcome in a new King and all that goes with it and it may well signify a new era for many of us, so it maybe worth opening on the bank holidays after all.
