A local hedgehog rescue project has received a boost from the insurance company Aviva.
The firm is supporting a crowdfunding initiative by the Beer Men’s Shed, whose members are making nesting boxes for rescued hedgehogs.
The boxes are given to The Hedgehog Hut in Colyford, which looks after sick and injured hedgehogs and returns them to the wild. The Men’s Shed has launched a crowdfunder to raise £1,500, which will pay for 75 hedgehog boxes, and Aviva is matching it pound for pound through its Community Fund.
The Beer Men’s Shed has already made 100 hedgehog boxes since it opened in 2019. Spokesman Chris Pickles said: “By being able to make the hedgehog boxes, our members get a sense of pride in helping the community and the environment that we live in.”
Donations, which will be matched by Aviva, can be made via the Aviva Community Fund website.
