So with umpteen May bank Holidays now over, not to mention the King's Coronation and the Jazz Festival, the next big event for the town is the Sidmouth Folk festival. Are you ready?

I’m sure that some people in the town tire of hearing about it year after year but it does in general draw a high volume of people into the seaside resort and provide the opportunity for those retailers and business owners to see an increase in their turnover, but how can you ramp things up to the next level?

Most pubs and drinking establishments provide plastic glasses during the week of the August 4 to 11, so the option to stay open a little later than normal maybe worth considering along with the very obvious slant on goods and services aimed at the clientele who are likely to be staying for the week.

For those who feel as though this attitude is a little unfair, drive up and down the country and look at the goods on offer in leading supermarket chains they differ greatly from region to region: it’s the age old story of supply and demand.

With many of the events kicking off in the morning, opening earlier is equally beneficial and you maybe surprised how many festival goers you will see walking dreamily through the town at eight in the morning.

The special offers routine is tried and tested and can always benefit from a little tweaking here and there to suit the current climate and I’m sure there will be those who are well geared up for this scenario and good on them.

Business in general has been a little quieter this year something very few can deny so all the more reason to take every opportunity we can to increase trade and whilst some may not bother finding it another week of loud music and disturbance others may have a little more of a carpe-diem attitude
