Ottery Community Theatre has won a National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) South West Award for its pantomime Rumpelstiltskin.
The production was judged the region's Best Small Pantomime 2022.
Nominating the group for the award, Tricia Barclay, NODA's district representative, said: “This was an extremely clever take on a traditional tale, written especially for the group by one of the members, and very much delivered in this company’s own style. The stunning opening number caught everyone’s attention from the outset and an effective early audience participation routine quickly encouraged interaction. The story veered skilfully from tradition with misunderstanding, kidnapped babies, trial by jury and near miss executions."
She praised the singing and band, the set and costumes, concluding: "This was a well-rounded production with a refreshing difference and was cleverly written and excellently performed. The final number Happiness simply summed up a great show.”
A spokesperson for Ottery Community Theatre said: "We are absolutely thrilled to win this award and all credit must go to everyone who was involved in the production. Although the audience only see the actors, so much goes on behind the scenes so thank you to: our musicians; the backstage crew; those who prepared the props, costumes and set; our front-of-house team; and everyone else involved in any way."
