Seven months after opening Antiques on High number 4 in Taunton, we successfully managed to secure the deal on our 5th store in Harrogate taking over on June 13

Good business is where you find it and not ever being one who has been put off by driving long distances, we seem to have found it in the most extreme of places and it has even been suggested that we look at other countries to expand to, although I think that may be a little too ambitious “good old blighty” is more than enough for us to deal with.

Our structure and ethos surrounding our relentless expansion has always been to encourage younger people into the antiques business as dealers as we have always felt that they are the future of the business and to provide them with a plethora of branded high street stores adds to the security of their future and indeed the future of the antiques trade. It has to be said that traditionally antiques dealers are often in their fifty’s and carry a wealth of knowledge, well it’s hardly surprising is it if they have been around antiques for twenty five years they are very likely to have a large degree of knowledge. The internet has changed that and to a large degree if you avoid the obvious sites, you can absorb a large degree of knowledge simply by searching on your phone.

Whenever anyone starts a business, nine times out of ten they start it in the town in which they live, simply because they live there and that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best place to start a business of their chosen type. Needless to say it happens all the time and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, the question is often how much research has really been done and more often than not the thought of driving any meaningful distance puts people off….. don’t be, as it could be a huge benefit in the long term.
