With the takeover of our fifth store in Harrogate north Yorkshire two weeks ago we haven’t really had time to notice the heat, but it appears the summer is now well and truly upon us, should we all be rushing out and putting solar panels on our business rooves in preparation for the winter?

Do you remember a few years ago it was quite a thing wasn’t it having solar panels all over you roof

And it became rather a fashion statement but for some reason the compulsion to cover your roof in shiny panels never really took off and all those companies who thought they were going to make a fortune from it faltered at the first hurdle.

Travelling up and down the country every week as we do, it now appears that farmers and land owners are catching on, as massive fields next to motorways and A roads are all of a sudden filling with solar panels and you can now lease your land out at around a thousand pounds per acre for the installation of solar panels but, is it really going to pay off to put a few of them on the roof of your business in an attempt to battle those big winter bills?

Sadly the average time to recoup the money spent installing them is anything from 12 to 26 years which to me sounds like a very slow burn as it were and probably not worth the bother but if you own your business premises and intend seeing out the rest of your working life in them then it could become quite an asset especially if you decide to let the premises to another business. The attraction of having solar panels fitted may well be an appealing asset to someone especially when you consider the fact that we all seem to be heading towards electrical power for our energy nowadays
