A tractor driver has been caught by police transporting a precarious load of hay bales on his trailer.

He was on the A3052 near Sidmouth with the bales piled on the trailer with no straps to secure them in place.

The driver has been reported to court for having an unsafe load.

The Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team posted a photo of the trailer on Twitter on Tuesday, June 27, with the comment: “This driver on the A3052 Sidmouth, Devon was aware of the RTC a few years ago when a bale of hay fell on a cyclist but still didn’t strap his load!”

They were referring to an incident in 2019 on a road near Exeter when an unsecured straw bale on a farm trailer fell on to a passing cyclist, causing permanent brain damage and other serious injuries.
