We are rapidly approaching the last date that applications can be made for our Sidmouth Sustainable Champions Awards.

Nominations have been made from businesses, community groups and educational establishments, but none have been received from individuals. Perhaps there is a reluctance to blow our own trumpet, but I am sure that there are many individuals in the Sid Valley who have done their bit to ensure that they live their lives in a more sustainable fashion. If that is you, please do enter a nomination. The objective of the awards scheme is to share good practice and for the community to recognise those who have made a contribution to sustainable living which others could emulate.

The nomination does not have to be for some great initiative. It could be that you have reduced your car usage, shared your car with others, tried to be more self-sufficient by growing your own vegetables or made do and mended something instead of throwing it away. Whatever it is please let us know and enter the nomination process via our website www.sidmouth-champions/vgsidmouth.co.uk by 31st July.

Nominations of each category of award, Citizens Award, Groups and Organisations Award, Schools and Educational Organisations Award and Businesses Award will be judged by a panel of local individuals with a proven interest in sustainability. The winners and runners up will be provided with their awards at a reception in September and will no doubt feature in future Vision Group articles.
