The beautiful sunny weather is certainly welcome after some typically British weather in recent weeks. This week, I returned to a sweltering Westminster after the summer recess.

This summer, I have continued to help with queries and casework. The important issues that fill my postbag continue as normal, so I’ve helped resolve problems covering benefits, housing, passports, pensions, HMRC, and energy bills.

I continued to hold regular advice surgeries in Sidmouth and in my constituency office in Exmouth. I run surgery sessions to assist constituents with what they might be facing on a wide variety of urgent and complex issues.

When not behind a desk, I was out and about across East Devon. A personal highlight was meeting FORCE Cancer Charity. They provide community support to cancer patients and their loved ones, with a base at Ottery St Mary Hospital.

I also had time to sample some seasonal fixtures in the East Devon events calendar, such as the Beer Regatta and the Sidmouth Air Show. I'm writing this column on the train from Honiton to London as Parliament returns. Taking the train every week gives me the opportunity to respond to your emails, write my weekly column, and prepare for the Culture, Media and Sport Committee session – with this week’s session on gambling regulation.

The government's Energy Bill is being voted on in Parliament this week, which I know is welcome for Cranbrook residents after last winter's debacle from energy giant E.ON. I've been pushing Minister's to bring in regulation for district heating networks like Cranbrook and I'm glad it's closer to becoming a reality.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is determined to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists, and stop the boats. With the King’s Speech and Autumn Statement on the horizon, it’s time to crack on and deliver. I'll continue to use every opportunity to raise East Devon's issues.
