A Christmas hamper appeal is being launched by Sidmouth Rotary to spread some festive cheer among people who are struggling with the cost of living.

The Rotary Club is collaborating with Sid Valley Food Bank and other community organisations to collect donations and money for those in need, including families, senior citizens and individuals.

It follows a successful appeal last year in which 89 hampers were distributed to families and senior citizens, 735 gifts were given to children, and 50 gift bags were delivered to the Community Lunch.

Rotary Project Manager, Mike Goodman, said that the success of the project relies on local voluntary groups and businesses working together. Funds, gifts, and food come from all sectors of the community with local businesses, churches, schools and individuals all having a part to play.

The Sid Valley Food Bank coordinator, Una Markham, said that the Food Bank is pleased to collaborate with the Rotary Club and other local community organisations and groups in the Christmas hamper project.

From Friday, November 3, there will be notices and donation points in Fields, Potburys, The Works, the Co-op, Post Office and Gliddons Toy Shop. There will also be a donation point in Market Square on Friday, December  1and Saturday 2, and a cash/card street collection in Market Square on Friday, December 8 and Saturday 9.

Residents can help by donating gifts for children and teenagers, and Christmas hamper items.
