A familiar face will be behind the counter when a new confectionery shop opens in the centre of Sidmouth tomorrow morning (Thursday, November 9).

Flapjackery is coming to Fore Street, offering flapjacks and an array of mouth-watering treats.

Manager Penny Swindell is excited about welcoming the first customers through the door.

"I'm really looking forward to opening," said Penny.

"I love opening shops and creating a new business. It gives me a real buzz."

Flapjackery was born out of a shared passion for home baking by Sally Jenkin and Carol Myott.

From their own kitchens, they branched out into selling cakes at a farmers market in Tavistock and have since established several shops in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Bath.

Customers in Sidmouth can look forward to goodies such as chocolate, flapjack, fudge and chocolate clusters.

All the baking is carried out in Tavistock and the finished products are the delivered to the various shops.

The store has nominated Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat  as its nominated charity, a cause close to Penny's heart as she is a keen sailor.

A representative from Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat will be present during the opening.

Penny is well known in the town, where she has run a number of shops, including Bloomers, County Cards@83 and a number of other businesses.

For Penny, it is a welcome return to Sidmouth after spending a number of years in the tiny West Indies island of Bequia, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

She said: "We decided we'd had enough and it's great to be back in Sidmouth and to be opening Flapjackery."
