Sidmouth Repair Café will hold its last session of the year this Saturday, November 25.

And with Christmas approaching, the team are encouraging people to think about whether something they own would make a great present for a friend or relative – after it’s been repaired or restored.

Many of the items brought to the Repair Café are just household appliances or gadgets that need to be mended. But people also bring belongings with personal value to them that they can’t bear to throw away.

A Repair Café spokesperson said: “Whether it's been a hat given a groovy make-over with all sorts of colourful darning, or a very collectable piece of china, once in pieces and now at one with itself. Or a dolls house off its hinges and gone to wrack and ruin – but given a bit of TLC and a real facelift. Or even a cuckoo clock that's had its 'coo' restored.

“A lot of these treasured items will continue to be treasured by their owners. But several pieces were also intended to be passed on to friends or family – very much as something of real value, because of the care and attention invested in them.

“So, if you've got a broken item which you don't really want to throw away and which could be repaired with a little help from the team of fixers – then do pop by for the last Repair Café before Christmas -and the last one of the year. You might even end up with something which would make a very special and very unique gift.”

The Sidmouth Repair Café will be open from 10am to 1pm this Saturday, November 25, at the Youth Centre on Manstone Lane. Open to all, refreshments available and donations welcome.
