A cheerful group joined East Devon Amnesty International for a serious purpose: to stand up for the victims of human rights abuses around the world.
The annual Write for Rights card and letter signing session took place at Twyford House on Saturday, December 2.
The local group joined thousands of Amnesty supporters around the world to show support for people in 10 different countries who are enduring human rights abuses, signing good wishes cards to individuals, and letters to their governments demanding justice.
The people they are supporting include Ahmed Mansoor, a blogger in prison in the United Arab Emirates; Rocky Myers, who has been on death row in the USA for 30 years; and Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul, Torres Strait islanders fighting in the courts to save their ancestral lands.
There will be another chance to sign cards next Saturday, December 9, at the Methodist Church Foyer between 10am and 1pm, when the group will be marking the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
