A defibrillator has been installed at the entrance to Sidmouth Victoria Hospital.

The potentially life-saving piece of kit was paid for by the Hospital Comforts Fund, with the installation funded by NHS Property.

John and Joy Loveridge from the Sidmouth Victoria Hospital Comforts Fund said they had felt that visitors to Sidmouth would reasonably assume that there would be a defibrillator for public use at the hospital, in the case of a medical emergency.

Joy said: "The trustees are always looking for ways to improve facilities. The defibrillator will serve the community and those who visit us. The project was seen by trustees as an important way to help the hospital."

Sidmouth Victoria Comforts Fund is very much a ‘local’ charity relying on the generosity of the community and has recently registered with the Charity Commission to put it in the best possible position to support the hospital.

The AGM of the Comforts Fund will be held at All Saints' Church Hall on Thursday, April 11th at 2.15pm. It will be a public meeting to which the whole community is welcome. The speaker will be The Revd Canon Christopher Vallins, who will be talking about hospital chaplaincy. His own career has covered a period of considerable change in the field of pastoral support for both patients and staff.
