The Devon County Show will introduce British Sign Language (BSL) to cater to the deaf community.

This is part of the show's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

BSL will first be provided on Thursday, May 16 - the first day of this year's show.

Two BSL interpreters will sign in tandem with commentaries for events taking place in both the Main Arena and the Countryside Arena.

The former will be conducted from the dedicated disability platform, whilst the latter will occur to the side of the commentary box.

An area in front of the interpreter has been cordoned off exclusively for the deaf community.

The signing timetable includes Meirion Owen and his Sheep Dog Display at 2pm, a Police Dog Display at 3pm in the Countryside Arena.

In the Main Arena, the Vintage Tractors event begins at 4.25pm, followed by Double Harness Scurry at 4.55pm and Heavy Horse Demonstration at 5.25pm.

Sidmouth Herald:

Show manager Lisa Moore shows her support: "The Devon County Show should be for everyone, regardless of their ability.

"We hope that this latest gesture, which for this year we are running as a test, will encourage more members of the Deaf Community to come to the show, as well as to feel more connected with the whole show experience.

"If the demand is there, we will certainly look at rolling it out to cover more features/days next year."

To raise awareness for the service, Devon County Show is working closely with both Living Options Devon and the Deaf Academy.
