A Sidmouth couple who got married in Sidmouth Parish Church in 1964 have just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Alexander and Merle Lewis met while they were working in nearby town centre businesses; he was at Hayman's butchers and she was at the Dairy. Alexander had been born in Sidmouth; Merle had moved there when aged about 18.
The pair married when they were aged 21 and 29, and have remained in Sidmouth ever since, living in Temple Street and then at Church House, which is now Kennaway House. They currently live in Chambers Close.
The pair celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 18 with family and friends.
