Sidmouth Carnival Week and the Illuminated Procession starts this Sunday.
It takes place on Saturday 28th September from 7.30pm to 8pm. Carnival week begins on September 22 to 28.
The procession will start from Woolbrook then proceedes down into the town. This year the route is slightly shorter and will be stopping on the seafront Zebra crossing, the procession reaching town by 8pm.
This year is the first year that a programme has been circulated, which is £1 and can be purchased from Sidmouth Post Office, Woolbrook News, Gliddons Cooks Corner, Toffee Nosed Sweet Shop, Sidmouth Tourist Information Centre, Wag and Bone (Sidbury), Radway Inn and Fords.
The programme is packed full of events leading up to the carnival plus a free colouring competition for children with a prize for the winner and the chance to win a £50 voucher for MYCA's. Carnival week includes a bingo night, skittles night, a virtual dog show and then ending with the carnival procession.
Seaton and Colyton Carnival have already taken place at the start of September, Budleigh Satlerton Carnival takes place in October.
Holly Phillips Chairwoman of Sidmouth Carnival Committee said: "Every year our costs for keeping the carnival running rise and this year our anticipated costs are around £6000. Every penny and pound counts and is crucial so please do make sure you come out in force on the night with your change to add to our collection tins throughout the procession. If you don't carry cash all of our collection buckets will have our Just Giving Page QR code on them for you to scan and donate online or our link is included here." https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Sidmouth-Carnival-2024
