A vodka partnership has given donkeys a helping hoof, raising more than £22,000 for animals in need during its first year.
The Donkey Sanctuary, based in Sidmouth, has received £22,288 through its partnership with Dutch Barn, part of Ellers Farm Distillery in North Yorkshire.
The distiller joined forces with the international animal welfare charity a year ago, pledging to donate a percentage of sales from its Ginger Spiced Vodka to support sanctuary care and welfare work.
The money helps provide veterinary treatment and safe sanctuary for donkeys and mules in the UK and around the world, alongside support for communities that depend on the animals.
Richard Meehan, chief executive of Ellers Farm Distillery, said: “Donkeys have a remarkable way of winning people’s hearts, which is why this partnership means so much to us.
“We’re incredibly proud that, in just twelve months, our amazing customers have helped raise around £22,288 to support donkeys and mules in need around the world.”
Richard added: “Our customers have really got behind the partnership from day one, and their support and generosity has been incredible.
“The Donkey Sanctuary does amazing work, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping them continue to make a real difference.”
The sanctuary says its long-eared residents have a particular fondness for apples and ginger in their enrichment treats, providing a connection with the vodka partnership.
Dr Faith Burden, interim chief executive at The Donkey Sanctuary, thanked the company and customers for their support.
She said: “To everyone at Dutch Barn, and to every customer who has supported our partnership during its first year, we say thank you.
“Your kindness, generosity and belief in making a difference have already raised £22,288 toward a better world for donkeys, and that is certainly worth celebrating.”
