A junior football club is calling on local tradespeople to pitch in as it takes the next steps towards improving a ground for young players.

Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings is seeking people with trade skills or building repair experience to help with its “Big Project” at the former Sidbury United pitch and building in Byes Lane.

The club has a contract in place and access to the building. Parking has been agreed and permission given to improve the pitch.

It now wants to form a working party to assess the repairs needed and estimate costs, allowing funding applications to begin.

A meet-up is proposed at Byes Lane on Saturday, October 17, at 2pm. Local tradespeople, businesses and anyone able to offer relevant expertise are being encouraged to help.

Georgia Trengove, the club’s social media and website officer, said: “Our next step is to form a working party of people with trade skills or building repair experience to assess what needs doing and help estimate costs.

“This will allow us to begin funding applications and move the project forward.”

Volunteers have already been preparing the area around the clubhouse.

Georgia added: “This is a big opportunity for our club to create a lasting legacy for local young players, and your support could help us find the people we need to get started.”

Founded in 1980, the volunteer-run club provides football opportunities for around 350 young players across mixed and girls’ teams.
