A MAN was rushed to hospital after passers-by discovered him unconscious next to the River Sid on Saturday night.

Members of the public dialled 999 after coming across the man, believed to be in his 50’s, near Fortescue Road at around 9.25pm.

It is understood the man had been in the water. He spent the night on a ventilator at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Police are not treating the matter as suspicious. Ambulance control notified officers of the find and that the man was still alive. Paramedics treated him at the scene. A police spokesman said the man came off a ventilator on Sunday and his condition was not life-threatening.
