SIDMOUTH'S Lifeboat Service received a welcome cash boost on Monday after a folk week group dropped by with a £1000 donation.
The West Dorset Accordion Group, who have been performing at the town's folk week for over 20 years, chose the independent service on the Esplanade after collecting funds throughout the year.
Group member Cynthia Bennett, who has received an MBE for her charity work, said: "We play on the seafront every year and wanted to give a little bit back, we have always been aware of the service, they do a wonderful job."
Sidmouth Lifeboat Trustee Freddy Wedderburn said: "I was really taken aback when we got the cheque. This is generosity in the extreme and what I'm sad about is that because of the bad weather I haven't got to see them perform yet."
"It's a double benefit for Sidmouth that we have people come who provide such pleasure with their music and then can collect enough to give us a cheque for £1000, I'm speechless.
