A PAIR of teenage Sidmouth air cadets will hike 50 miles in just 24 hours to help other youngsters do things they never thought possible.

Tom Palmer and Alex Morton, both 19, are hoping to net sponsorship for the non-stop trek – which they will take on in full uniform.

The pair are due set off from Weymouth at noon on March 2 and aim to reach the Sidmouth Squadron Air Training Corps HQ in Stowford Rise a day later.

The 24/50 Challenge will see them cover a chunk of the South West Coastal Footpath without any major stops.

“We will be doing the challenge in air cadet uniform with webbing and daypacks,” said Tom.

Money raised by the duo will go to the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF), which is closely linked to a junior leaders’ cadet course both Alex and Tom are currently partaking in.

The JTYAF provides youngsters with scholarships and bursaries to support the pursuit of their ambitions.

Tom and Alex will be fundraising outside the Co-Operative from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.
