Air disaster warning over laser use

Police have condemned the ‘reckless’ the actions of people shining lasers at aircraft from the Otterton area - saying it is ‘only a matter of time’ before the folly ends in disaster.

The first incident saw a police helicopter searching for a burglary suspect targeted several times as it hovered over the village.

The second was when the pilot of a plane carrying 78 passengers into Exeter Airport reported a ‘sustained’ laser attack from the Otterton area on September 1, shortly before 10pm.

Police said they would visit houses in the area to inform them of the dangers of dazzling pilots with lasers.
