Margaret’s service to Seaton honoured by EDDC

BECAUSE of her eminent service to Seaton Ward as a district councillor, Margaret Rogers has been made Honorary Alderman by East Devon District Council.

Mrs Rogers, who lived in Branscombe, retired as a councillor in March and moved to live nearer her family in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

A Liberal Democrat, she received a framed scroll, medallion and plaque at last week’s full EDDC meeting from its chairman, Councillor Graham Liverton.

He said: “She has been a wonderful councillor for Seaton, along with her late husband Noel. This is a tribute to him as well as for her.”

The council did not confer the title of alderman lightly, he added, but said it was recognition for what she had done for Seaton and East Devon.

“She was always giving you food for thought when in opposition. You always listened to what she had to say and we will all miss her, though I’m sure she will come back from time to time.”

During her time as a district councillor, Mrs Rogers served on many committees particularly Policy, Housing, Tourism and Transportation, Amenities, the Executive Board and Scrutiny.

She also served on a number of sub-committees, forum and outside bodies, with particular interest in Seaton, Sustainability, Health and Housing.

Both she and Noel did much for Seaton ward and were thoroughly committed to local government, enjoying its challenges and debates.

Councillor Liverton also presented long service awards to three members of staff at EDDC.

Valerie Hysenai received an award for 25 years service in Home Safeguard, while Michaela Pohl gained a 10 year award working for Economic Development and Martin McGuire of Street Scene also gained a 10 year long service award.
