HALLOWEEN was certainly scary in Sidford and Sidmouth this year when Alien and Predator dropped in on the hunt for victims.

The gruesome twosome certainly caused a stir, and a few screams, when they stood outside Spar, Sidford, helping to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign's Dare to Wear it Pink day.

Predator Paul Maitland, a web designer and son of Spar manager Wendy Thomson, and his friend Alien Gareth Ellner, a computer programmer, picked a great day to pose outside the shop and have assistant Magan Bland take their photos with youngsters in exchange for a donation.

Wendy said: "They have just come back from Atlanta and were in London at the weekend. They raise money for NSPCC, which is Spar's national charity, but because it was Pink day they said they would do it for that."

She forgot to tell one shop assistant the lads were changing into their costumes in a stock room, which gave her a real fright.

Alexander Ellisson, 10, from Farnham, Surrey, was holidaying with his grandma Pamela from Malden Road and posed with the creatures.

"They are brilliant, though when Alien gives a hiss he is very scary," said Pamela.

Alexander added: "I would like their costumes, then I would scare people who are annoying."

Later, as Wendy paid in their takings, the creatures scared Kate Jones and Michael Tyler, staff at Nat West in Sidmouth, then ambled through the town centre, creating Halloween havoc.

Toddlers in prams were genuinely scared of the ugly aliens, but most people were amused, stopping to photograph the pair as they made their way to the seafront.

The duo made £178 for Pink day, including the sale of homemade cakes in Spar.

"They are off to Leicester space centre in two weeks for an alien wars event," said Wendy. "They do this in their spare time.
