Hopes of an agreement so renovation can begin

Ottery’s new library could be opening its doors this autumn, as hopes of a formal agreement move a step closer.

The ‘ambitious but achievable date’ of October 1, has been set to welcome people into the facility that will also incorporate disabled access, public toilets and the town’s tourist information centre.

The former NatWest bank building in Silver Street has been earmarked as suitable new premises since September, but an agreement between Libraries Unlimited - the non-profit-making company responsible for the facility - and the town council has yet to be reached.

Following a meeting on May 9, town councillors and Friends of Ottery Library said a lot has been achieved and tentatively set a date of October 1, for the new opening.
