AN ANTIQUE crazy Sidmouth couple got the chance to put their hobby to the test when they appeared on BBC1s Bargain Hunt yesterday.

Peter, 66, and Nina Baptie, 60, of the High Street, were told in October they had been successful in their application to appear on the antiques gameshow.

Peter, who has appeared on several quiz shows over the years including Winner Takes All and People Versus, said: "I didn't actually tell my wife I had applied and then we got the phone call. Nina is a little bit camera shy and she was quite shocked when she found out but I think in the end she enjoyed it."

The filming took place in November at Topsham Quay and with the help of antique expert James Braxton the pair found quite a few items of interest.

Peter added: "My wife and I are interested in collectables so it was fun to walk around and find things that we thought would do well at auction."

The red-dressed duo, competed against another local couple- from Ottery- who had Philip Serrell as their expert.

"We were just given an hour to find everything and we kept bumping into Tim Wonnacott. It is exactly as it is on the TV," said Peter.

The auction took place a couple of weeks later in Bearne's auction house in Exeter.

Unfortunately Peter and Nina made a loss on auction day and went home empty handed but their spirits were not dampened.

Peter added: "It is good to be at an auction with the things you have chosen and you don't know how they are going to sell. It was good fun and I really enjoyed it.
