An Antiques Roadshow expert regaled the audience at a special event that netted £1,700 for Sidmouth's branch of the RNLI.

Paul Atterbury gave an entertaining talk about how the popular BBC programme is made, with amusing tales of valuations, characters he had met and a few insights of working with the team.

A spokesman for the group said: “It was quite a revelation to hear about the volume of items the team values in the making of the programme, often in the cold and wet, over a very long day.

“The Sidmouth Ukulele Strummers preceded Paul’s talk and the acoustics in All Saints Church certainly did them justice.

“Thanks to Harrison-Lavers and Potbury’s for sponsoring the wine, Andy Ridler for sponsoring the hall and Hamilton Garage, Winchesters, Potburys, Exeter Chiefs, Wine World, the Bedford Hotel and all the committee for raffle prizes and making it a memorable evening.”
