Gardeners are urging people to keep off their new tribute to the Red Arrows after finding the plants trampled on Sunday.

The plants had only gone into the flowerbed in the Triangle a week before so had not had time to establish themselves.

Sidmouth in Bloom volunteers conducted their routine maintenance and watering on Saturday but the following morning found they had repair work to do.

Group treasurer Peter Endersby said: “This display has taken eight months since its inception to arrive. It was designed, paid for an installed by Sidmouth in Bloom volunteers.

“Over the weekend someone walked on it, causing extensive damage to the delicate plants. Fortunately, we’ve managed to repair it.

“We’ve reported it to the police, who have recorded it as antisocial behaviour.

“We are asked people to keep an eye out and if damage is seen, please report it to the police by calling 101.”

Other planters around town are being filled over the next few weeks.
