SIDMOUTH Carnival’s grand auction raised more than 1,170 toward this year’s event.
The sale, held at Potburys auction rooms in High Street on Tuesday, July 20, was an outstanding success, said carnival treasurer Justine Payton. Lots ranged from a full car service, through meals and cinema vouchers to jewellery and bottles of wine.
“We were hoping for 500 on the day so to more than double that – raising 1,177.50 – was a brilliant result,” said Justine. “We would like to thank all those individuals and businesses who donated auction prizes and give very special thanks to the staff at the auction rooms who provided us with their expertise, premises and services free of charge. They did not even charge buyer’s commission or premium tax on the day.”
