DETECTIVES investigating a cruel burglary in Aylesbeare have released further descriptions of the men they want to speak to.

Last week the Herald reported police were hunting two men after they broke into 88-year-old Hilda Wright's home and when she challenged one of the men, he pushed her to the ground.

The raid happened on Saturday, August 15 just after midnight and the men fled with only a handful of cash.

Detective Sergeant Jo Hall, of Exmouth CID, said: "The lady is still recovering in hospital following surgery.

"She has told us how what she described as 'the happiest day for a long time'- her 88th birthday-was ruined when she heard someone in her hallway and thought it was her son."

The following descriptions have been released by police:

The first man is described as white, between 5'5" and 5'6" tall and of medium build.

He was 30 to 40 years of age and had no discernible accent.

He wore black leather gloves and a hat which covered his head and face.

The victim hit this man with a metal stick when she challenged him and caused an injury to his head or shoulder.

The second man is described as white, between 5'5" and 5'6" and aged between 20 and 25.

DS Hall added: "We have had a number of witnesses come forward already but my hope is that the new information regarding the suspect's injury will prompt someone in the community to tell us who this man is."

Anyone who can help with the enquiries is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number KO/09/450.
