DESPITE the bad weather this summer, Beer's annual Charm Show was hailed as a success.

The event, organised by Beer Horticultural Society, took place on Sunday, November 2 at the Mariners Hall.

A range of charm chrysanthemums were shown but unfortunately due to the bad weather some categories including the Best Cut Chrysanthemum and Best Vase of Chrysanthemums had no entries.

Ursula Makepeace, chairman of Beer Horticultural Society said: "It went very well. We had 34 charms being exhibited which were very good considering the unfortunate weather conditions this summer.

"There were no entries in some of the classes because of the ghastly weather but it was still an enjoyable event."

"This particular type of show is quite unique as there isn't another one like it within 100 miles as there are not many areas where Charms are grown."

Mr Halsey, who many may know from the flower show, judged the Charms and the winners were awarded their cups in the afternoon.

Refreshments were served including homemade cake for the first time which went down very well with the visitors.

Mrs Makepeace added:

"The Horticultural Society is very grateful to those residents and businesses that were very generous and kindly sponsored the Charm Show."
