SIDMOUTH Ballet School and East Devon Dance celebrated a successful year with a prize-giving evening at Sidmouth College.

The event on Saturday, July 3, began with demonstrations of routines students had learned, from ballet to cheerleading, and dances from the 2010 show Multiplicity, staged in May. Cups and trophies were then handed out by special guests Marie and Barry Martin. Teacher Lucie-Grace Welsman said: “Marie and Barry do a lot within the town, so we thought it would be nice to invite them along.”

New to the list of accolades was the Grace Fisher Award for passion and presence, won by Aaron Bagwell. Lucie said: “Students who are leaving to go to dance or theatre school always give an award, and it was Grace’s turn because she’s off to Masters Performing Arts College in Essex in September.

“It was a lovely evening to round off a brilliant year – Multiplicity was really successful and we’ve had some great exam results.”

The school is running a Dance Crazy workshop for five to 11-year-olds on Wednesday, August 11. It will cover ballet, street jazz, singing and drama. “It should be a fun day, and is open to all abilities,” said Lucie-Grace. Call (01395) 577088 or email eastdevondance@hotmail.co.uk.
