ALL recycling and waste collections in Sidmouth and across East Devon will be a day later than usual at the end of August because of Bank Holiday Monday.

Monday collections for that week will be picked up on Tuesday, and so on through the week, with Friday collections moving to Saturday.

This is a change from the previous system, when recycling collections were unaffected by the Bank Holiday, said East Devon District Council.

Councillor David Cox, EDDC portfolio holder for StreetScene, who is responsible for the recycling and waste collection service in the district, said the change was a result of the more complex collection service now starting to be offered.

He said: "On August 4, towns and villages in the Axe Valley moved to a more complete recycling service involving for the first time weekly collections of food waste and dry recyclables.

"Householders in those areas have already received leaflets explaining the new bank holiday arrangements as part of the publicity material about the new service.

"But all residents need to be aware that their recycling collections will be one day later during the week following the August Bank Holiday."

This new arrangement will also apply in the days following other bank holidays.

Mr Cox said: "We will ensure that residents are made aware of the changes, through articles and advertisements in the local press, flyers sent to households and through our own website.
