BEER clubs and societies welcomed hundreds of members of the public into their fold at an Activities Fair on Saturday.

Of the 33 clubs in Beer, 30 group members had a presence at the open day in the Mariners Hall last weekend which was organised by the Beer Bag Project.

Sarah Williams, organiser of the Activities Fair, said: "It was really successful. We were busier in the morning but all of the tables were kept busy.

"There were at least 40 people on the stalls and in total there were around 200 people who attended on the day."

A new group, Beer Seriously Occasional Singers (BSOS), signed up ten new members on the day.

Sarah added: "As an event it was very sociable and it gave groups the chance to network. I think we will definitely be holding another Activities Day, probably in September as that is when most groups start the new season."

More than 100 was made on the day and the event was self-funding so no money had to be taken out of the Beer Bag Project coffers-meaning local groups and charities will benefit.

The new batch of bags, selling at 4 each, are on sale in Beer Post Office, Beer Pharmacy, the Village Store, Hair Shoppe, Osbornes, Beer Fish and Chip Shop, Woozies Deli, Marine House and Steam Galleries, Barrel O'Beer pub, Spice Merchant, Steamers Restaurant and from March they can be bought from Ashdown Caravan Park.

Sarah has also produced a directory of all of the clubs and societies in Beer which were handed out at the open day. They can be picked up from the Mariners Hall foyer, Steamers Restaurant and it should soon be accessible from the website www.beer-devon.co.uk.
