Beer bird is missing
PUBLISHED: 06:41 22 September 2010
A WELL-KNOWN Beer resident has gone missing.
The eagle owl, which sat in the cliff-top beer garden of the Anchor Inn, has not been seen since the weekend of September 10-12. It had been there three years, designed to scare off seagulls and pigeons. It’s about 18in tall, dark green plastic and can be mistaken for a real bird from a distance.
Landlord Phil Hills has posted a message on the blackboard outside the pub offering a reward for any news.
He said: “We had a couple of stag parties in that weekend and it’s possible someone took it then.”
For the first month or so, it did its job well, but then other birds got used to it, so it was more part of the furniture than a deterrent.
Phil said: “It’s been such a talking point for so long it’s sad that it’s gone. It would be nice to get it back.”
