The head of Beer Coastguard has described the moment a pensioner went over a 150-foot cliff at Jacob’s Ladder in Sidmouth this morning (Thursday).
Station manager Terry Hoare said the 73-year-old, believed to be on his own, slid 120 feet down the cliff before falling 30 feet onto the beach.
A South West Ambulance Service spokesman said the man suffered neck pain and minor injuries and Mr Hoare said the casualty was ‘very lucky’.
Eyewitness Chantal Conrad, a holidaymaker from London, said it ‘must have been terrifying’ for him.
Dorset Air Ambulance landed on the beach but the man was stretchered off and conveyed by road to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Emergency crews were called at 11.14am.
