AN emergency call alerted coastguards to the rescue of a swimmer in trouble.
Beer Coastguard Rescue officers were quickly on the scene at Seaton beach, following a previous incident there, but saw the man already being assisted by a canoeist and a fellow-swimmer.
A coastguard report stated: "It was the gentleman's first swim of the year and he had over-estimated his abilities."
The man did not require medical assistance.
