BEER’S fifth annual duck race raised more than �650 for the Seaton, Beer and District Branch of the RNLI.

The event was held during Beer Lifeboat Week on Sunday, July 4. Eight heats of races on Beer Brook were started by Devon County councillor Jim Knight. Each heat winner won a prize, donated by businesses in Beer. Duck 13 won the grand final and its sponsor received an RNLI bear and bottle of champagne.

The event raised �654.55. A table top sale on Saturday, July 3 and a coffee morning on Wednesday, July 7 at the Mariners Hall raised �347.06, and a quiz night at Beer Club on Friday, July 9 raised �109.50. A street collection on the Saturday raised �315.15.

The week’s duck art competition was won by Isabelle Burley of Beer.

Branch secretary Wendy Cummin said: “We thank all our volunteers and sponsors plus those who donated items for sale, cakes, and prizes. It is greatly appreciated by all of us at the local branch and at RNLI headquarters.”
